  • Getting Ready for Kindergarten
    Mary K. Harrison offers a special program for 4-year-old children who will be starting kindergarten in the fall of 2012. Part of the statewide preschool initiative “One Book Every Young Child,” the program, “Getting Ready for Kindergarten,” is held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month from September through May.   (Oct. 6, Nov. 3, Dec. 1, Jan. 5, Feb. 2, March 1, April 5, and May 3)
    Activities such as letter games, finger plays, stories, and group participation will involve parents and children as they learn together.   Each month, children will be introduced to different letters and numbers.  Please call to register at 523-1172.s

  • Lap-Sit Story Time
    A story time for little ones, Lap-Sit Story Time introduces books to children from birth to one year through stories read out loud, nursery rhymes, and finger plays. No registration is required, but registering will enable us to contact you about last-minute schedule changes.  Lap-Sit Story Times usually are held on the first and third Fridays of the month. (Jan. 6, Jan. 20, Feb. 7 & Feb. 21)s

  • Toddler Story Time
    A special program for toddlers ages 1 and 2 years old, along with a parent or caregiver, Toddler  Story Time features stories read out loud, nursery rhymes, and finger plays.   American Sign Language also will be introduced.   The program will be held on Tuesdays.   • Preschool Story Time
    Preschool Story Time, featuring stories and a craft for children who are 3, 4, and 5, and their parents or caregivers, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.   • Children’s Craft Time
    A special Children’s Craft Time will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, January 23.  Participants will be making a Soapy Snowman.  This program is geared toward children in kindergarten through third grade.  Older children are also welcomed to register.   Please call to register at 523-1172.s

  • Daddy’s Story Time
    A story time for children and the special men in their lives will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 21st, February 18th and March 17th.  Please call to register at 523-1172.s

  • Evening Story Time
    A special story time for children and their parents or caregivers will be held Thursday evening, Jan. 19th at 6:30 p.m for toddlers, preschoolers and children in kindergarten through second grade.   There will be stories, music and a craft.   No registration is needed.s

  • Let’s Explore Science On Thursday, January 26th, at 6:30 p.m.children from kindergarten through fifth grade will conduct experiments that examine the properties of water.  Younger children will need an adult to help with the experiments.   Please call to register at 523-1172.s

  • On Tuesday, February 21, at 10 a.m. the Children’s Department and Geisinger Medical Center will be conducting a Dental Health Program for children.    Proper dental hygiene and care are essential to a child’s overall well being.  In this program, children will learn the importance of good dental health care.    There will be a story time along with games and interactive displays.    Each child will be given a toothbrush, dental floss, toothpaste and dental silly bands.  Please call to register at 523-1172.s

  • Children’s Book Group There will be a book discussion and related activities for children in kindergarten through fourth grade on Saturday, February 18 at 2 p.m..  Because the January session was cancelled due to the snow storm, children will be reading the same book The Eve of the Emperor Penguin by Mary Osborne.   Children can pick up a paperback copy of the book before February 18, when they register for the program.  They can stop at the library to register during regular business hours.  The program will last about one hour.s

  • To celebrate Leap Year the library is having a Leap Day Party.  You have an extra day to enjoy.    Leap into Leap Year at Your Library.  The library is holding the after-hours, family event on Wednesday, February 29 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the library.  There will be story time, games, crafts, activities and snacks.s

  • New Berlin Outreach Story Time
    Are you interested in attending an Outreach Story Time program for preschoolers at the United Church of Christ in New Berlin?   Please call the Children’s Services department at 523-1172 to let us know.s
